OWL Rafting on the beautiful Ottawa River in their iconic yellow rafts
Paddling for ALL
Adaptive Rafting – OWL has the unique capacity with our facility, pontoon boats and staff to accommodate almost all abilities of rafters, including those in wheelchairs. A longterm and great partnership is with Camp Merrywood – Easter Seals. Merrywood brings their campers several times a summer rafting with us and it’s always an awesome experience for both campers and staff involved. See some great video footage
Building a Community
Local Community Impact: OWL Rafting purchases as much as we can locally from businesses in Foresters Falls, Cobden, Renfrew and Pembroke. We use local services such as school bus drivers and busses for shuttles, mechanics, plumbers, electricians, bookkeepers, sign makers, network administrators and technicians, and printers.
Flood Relief Clean up on the Ottawa River –
The Samaritan’s Purse International Relief foundation has been helping coordinate efforts alongside locals to remove the remaining Ottawa River flood sandbags.
FREE access to paddlers – Supporting the paddling community for last 40 years at MKC/OWL Ottawa River put-ins. Given that the local municipality has yet to ever provide public access to the world class whitewater section called Rocher Fendu of the Ottawa River, the Van Wijk family have committed to allowing access at two locations. This is important to support the local and international paddling community that comes to the Ottawa River to paddle.
The floods were very damaging to the Black Chute put-in road but we are hard at work to ensure total accessibility!
Annual River Shoreline Clean up: OWL Rafting has always organized the Annual River Shoreline Clean up a day walking between rapids picking up any garbage along the way which is then loaded into the rafts for proper waste management.
Sustainability and Environmental Impact
The river journey teaches us about the importance of our waterways, the health of them and land and sustainability is foremost in our minds.
